Our Mission
To harness the strength of women’s voices in Broward to inspire hopefulness and incubate action for the future of our community. To engage and educate women to be empowered participants in democracy through voting. To create pathways for deep community engagement and dissemination of information for all women, especially those that may not have participated in traditional organizations.
Who We Are
We The Women Broward is a coalition of women who are young, old, married, divorced, single, LGBTQ+, immigrants, disabled, of color, survivors, and so much more. We are Broward.
We are women who have had enough, but believe in the possibility of a brighter future. We have built movements, businesses, families, and equity across Broward County, and are committed to creating a future for Broward that is bigger than our wildest dreams.
Why This Matters
People, especially Broward women, are craving connection that aligns with their visions for a just, equitable, and safe future. Elevating issues of importance in a communal manner will coalesce, galvanize, and inspire our community towards hope and action. Our goal is to focus attention on the dire economic and health conditions of women and children in Broward county.
Despite making up 50.9% of the county’s population and outpacing men on educational attainment, the 2023 Status of Women in Broward County report identified a continuing pay disparity of 11.4%. More specifically, “even though more women obtained a higher education, the wage gaps between women and men with a bachelor’s degree was 22.2%, and 26.7% for those with a graduate or professional degree.”
In Broward County, 53.9% of those living below the poverty threshold are women.
Women were 80.2% of the Family Success Administration Division (FSAD) clients (FSAD services include assistance with finances, tuition, childcare, nutrition, and employment).
The rate of mothers with no prenatal or only third trimester care and the rate of infant deaths per 1,000 births have not significantly improved since 2018. And Black women continue to be at highest risk for maternal death in Broward County (147 deaths per 100,000 live births, compared to 0 for white women, and 14.7 for Hispanic women).
In Broward County, women continue to be overrepresented as survivors of domestic violence.
